Perusing Log Files and Application Alarms

NNM daemons log information to their log files, some more than others. The directory $OV_LOG should be checked for several major log files including snmpCol.trace, netmon.trace, and trapd.log.

The snmpCollect daemon logs interesting events in snmpCol.trace. If there is some problem collecting SNMP data from a device, snmpCol.trace is where the clues will be found. Therefore, check this file periodically. Perhaps the community string has changed and collection has stopped for a device. Perhaps timeouts are limiting data collections.

The netmon daemon reports interesting information into the netmon.trace file. This file may grow rapidly if aggressive tracing is enabled for netmon. Since netmon is so important ...
