Backing Up Map Customizations

Given the daily regimen of finding “homes” for new devices, it follows that the updated map should be backed up. If the map builder experiences “finger trouble,” a great deal of work might be lost without this backup.

Map customizations are saved using the Map:Export menu. Ensure that the environment variable $MAP_CUSTOMIZATION is defined (necessary only for NNM 5.x) or this menu won’t be available. The default location for the customization file is /var/opt/OV/tmp/ ipmap.out. Rather than overwrite this file each day, append the date to it like this:

					ipmap.out.mmddyyyy
				

where mm is the month, dd is the day of the month, and yyyy is the four-digit year. Do not use a two digit year. (Let’s not forget the lessons ...
