NNM’s ability to autodiscover network devices is legendary, but once in a while an NNM administrator will despair over some device that NNM just won’t discover.

Recall that netmon is responsible for the autodiscovery process. It is guided by the optional seedfile parameter in the $OV_LRF/netmon.lrf which it reads every time it starts up. The seedfile is often used to define the initial management domain at the time of first discovery. Entries can be added to the seedfile later to expand the management domain. The NNM map builder or administrator can also interactively expand the management domain. Autodiscovery only occurs within the management domain, that is, on the managed subnets.
