A first estimate can be made using HP’s publication, Network Node Manager Performance and Configuration Guide. This document provides a methodology for sizing a system based on the following considerations:

  • number of objects

  • number of nodes

  • collection station overhead

  • management console overhead

  • number of ovw sessions

  • number of web-based sessions

  • amount of SNMP data being collected

  • alarm rate

  • backups

  • polling rate

  • database overhead

  • on-demand maps

This guide easily becomes dated as new versions of NNM and new patches are released. A conservative approach is to make a first estimate with the guide, double the results, and allow for growth.
