The system administrator performs a great variety of technical tasks to support an NNM deployment project. They are as follows:

• install the latest operating system on the platform

• configure the networking subsystems

• add users and account management

• system tuning

• disk striping

• upgrade hardware

• develop backup and restore scripts

• manage the system to which backups are done

• write installation scripts for homegrown code

• interface with developers

• troubleshoot installations

• download, apply, and test NNM and OS patches

• install ITO agents and develop custom monitoring scripts

• solve problems with user accounts and X-Windows

• customize the graphical environment
