10.3.1 Single-Channel Multi-Component Chips
Recent photonic integrated circuit (PIC) transmitter (TX) advances include the
development of uncooled TX optical sub-assemblies (TOSAs). Devices which do
not require a thermoelectric cooler (TEC), or work at a high temperature though
temperature controlled, enable a lower electrical power budget and reduced pro-
duction costs. Uncooled 1.55-mm 10 Gb/s TOSAs operate over temperature ranges
as great as 80C, with low dispersion, reasonable output powers, and stable
