Tight-Binding Approximation
When each thin-film waveguide of the periodic structure supports a single mode that
weakly overlaps with the modes of the two neighboring waveguides, the modes are
only weakly coupled via a small change of the refractive index in the waveguides.
The properties of discrete solitons can then be analyzed in the framework of the tight-
binding approximation discussed earlier [64].
