Auditing Capabilities

Auditing, in Oracle, is used to assist the DBA with investigating suspicious database activity or to gather information about certain specific database activities.

You may determine that an unauthorized user is deleting data. In that case, the DBA, or a security administrator, might decide that she needs to audit all the connections to the database and all the successful or unsuccessful deletions of data from all the tables in the database for a given period of time.
