A good starting point is to look at the My Oracle Support (MOS) document 175982.1 ORA-600 Lookup Error Categories, which includes a large table of mnemonics that are often used as the first three or four letters of the weird and wonderful names that you're likely to find.

With a couple of clues in hand, it's surprising how much more you can find on MOS—usually by searching the bug database, where temporary workarounds to bugs often reveal little snippets of information about how things work, or which parameters are significant in which areas ...
