13.2 Extraction
The extraction process is the process of pulling data from a source or trans-
actional, often OLTP, database. The trick is not to conflict with concurrent
end-user requirements. In other words, do not slow down access to the
source database by using an extraction method that will compromise source
database performance. However, if there is a window in which the extrac-
tion process must take place, then obviously that time period restriction
must also be taken into account.
