Partitioning and Basic Parallel Processing
This chapter covers Oracle Partitioning, including syntax and examples,
and some parallel processing as specifically applied to Oracle Partitioning.
In general, partitioning involves the physical splitting of large objects, such
as tables or materialized views, and their associated indexes into separate
physical parts. The result is that operations can be performed on those indi-
vidual physical partitions, resulting in a substantial reduction in I/O
requirements. Additionally, multiple partitions can be executed on in paral-
