Exadata offers massive improvements in throughput and scalability for many applications. In most scenarios, these performance improvements can be achieved simply by “dropping in” an application. However, even the most zealous Exadata advocates would concede that tuning and troubleshooting are required to deliver the final mile of performance. Furthermore, Exadata is not a cheap solution, so it’s important to be certain we configure the database machine for the maximum performance gains.
This chapter provides an overview of Exadata performance tuning, combining the general principles of Oracle Database tuning with the Exadata-specific technologies covered in detail elsewhere in this book.
