So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Options
Oracle provides a number of options that can be purchased with Oracle Enterprise Edition. As with the packaging in general, the content, price, and availability of these options are subject to change.
At the time of this writing (with Oracle9i Release 2), the following options are available:
- Real Application Clusters
Allows the use of a clustered database spread over multiple servers
- Partitioning
Allows data to be spread over multiple disks to improve performance
- OLAP
Includes a set of analytical functions that can be used for Online Analytical Processing
- Data Mining
Includes a set of data mining functionality for creating business intelligence applications
- Spatial
Enables the use of features and the manipulation of data for spatial information, such as that used in geographic information systems (GIS)
- Advanced Security
Provides the ability to use strong authentication and encryption
- Label Security
Provides the ability to define fine-grained security for data
In addition to these options, Oracle supports a series of expansion, or add-on, packs that can be used to extend the functionality of Enterprise Manager. These packs are described in Chapter 16.
