Load Balancing

Load balancing can be performed on both the client side and the server side:

  • On the client side, you request load balancing by specifying multiple listeners in the TNSNAMES.ORA file (similar to the way that you specify multiple listeners for failover). Load balancing causes a client connection to randomly choose one of the listener addresses in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.

  • On the server side, Shared Servers, described in the next section, provide load balancing through the listener. With this type of load balancing, new connections are distributed to the dispatcher that is the least busy.
