Two-Tier Configuration

If you run Enterprise Manager on a two-tier architecture, you will have a version of the Enterprise Manager Console running standalone on a client machine with direct access to the database server. Although you can use Enterprise Manager to perform a variety of maintenance operations in a two-tier architecture, the job system, event system, and groups are not available without the Oracle Management Server (available only in the three-tier configuration).

The two-tier configuration does not require a repository, but some types of applications, such as the Change Manager, Expert, SQL Analyze, Index Tuning Wizard, and LogMiner Viewer, do require a standalone repository.
