Console Areas

There are four basic areas in the Console:

Toolbar

Located at the top of the lefthand side of the window. Provides access to common functions for objects in the Navigator pane to its right. The six icons represent, from top to bottom, viewing Enterprise Manager reports, refreshing the Navigator view, creating a new object, creating a new object from an existing object, deleting an object, and displaying the master contents page of the help system. Not all of these choices are enabled at all times; display depends on the object selected in the Navigator.

Tool drawers

Located just below the toolbar. Used to launch different applications. Each drawer can contain several applications. These applications can include (if installed):

SQL*Plus Worksheet

An interface to SQL*Plus with an input window at the top and a results window at the bottom. You can have multiple SQL*Plus worksheets open at the same time.

SQL Scratchpad

New with Oracle9i; allows you to enter SQL code in the top window and see the results in the bottom window. This tool can also show a graphical version of EXPLAIN PLAN output and statistics on the return and execution of a SQL statement.

Oracle Enterprise Security Manager

Comes with Oracle Advanced Security.

Oracle Text

Helps to manage and search text in an Oracle database.

Oracle Spatial Index Advisor

Used with the Oracle Spatial option.

Oracle Directory Manager

Used with the Oracle Internet Directory.
