Set operators are keywords that are used to combine records from different record or result sets. SELECT statements produce the record sets that the set operators combine. Set operations and the operators are based on set theory.
Set theory uses special terminology to describe set relationships. This terminology consists of keywords such as UNION, MINUS and INTERSECTION. Figure 8.1 depicts two sets: E and F. The sets overlap each other, creating subsets or combinations. The various sets or combinations of sets are described here:
