The previous sections should have given you a basic idea of what processing occurs and how Oracle satisfies the SQL statements. The purpose of this chapter was to introduce you to some basic tools and techniques. This topic is much too large for only one chapter. I would suggest that you purchase a tuning book after you become comfortable with SQL. I recommend Guy Harrison’s SQL Tuning, which is the book that I keep on my desk when it is necessary to tune SQL.
Before leaving this topic, I would like to present some simple techniques that may help you use SQL:
