Chapter 14. Security

Oracle protects the data in the database by implementing security via users, roles, and privileges. The SQL language commands used to accomplish these security tasks are known as data control language (DCL) commands.

Oracle provides several different ways to enforce access control to ensure that only authorized users can login to the database. You want to avoid situations whereby a user can accidentally drop an important table or sidestep security rules. Every database user has certain system privileges that determine the type of actions a user can perform, such as create tables, drop views, or create other users.
