Contextual wiring of portlets using events

A portlet can define an event that can be triggered from the portlet. Other components can register to listen on those events. When the events trigger, the portlets will be notified of the event so they can handle it accordingly.

A big advantage on this technique is that an event has a payload. This payload is a collection of objects. These objects can be of any type. When you wire portlets using parameters, the types of the parameters are limited. If you don't know how many parameters will be passed, then the event technique is ideal.
