Let's take all of these parts and build the future. For the rest of this book I want you to let go of the constraints you currently have in your mind as to what is possible, and imagine what can be. If you were to be able to tell a person in 1890 what the world looks like today, and how we got here, they couldn't even wrap their mind around it. We can begin building a future you can't imagine, starting now.

Technology changes everything, and how we design our cities needs to be rooted in the most advanced AI available. AI will drive the most effective, efficient, and people‐first cities ever to exist on Earth. From basic infrastructure of sewers, water supply, electric grids, roads, parks, fire and police stations, and schools, we can leverage the power of AI to design cities that work for everyone. The change has begun, and is projected to continue to expand, with global revenue for smart city technologies, products, and services projected to reach an estimated $241 billion in 2023.¹

Reshaping Ecosystems and Urban Design with AI

Urban designers and planners now have the ability to use AI to lay out an entirely new urban area, or improve on existing ones. In so doing, we will see cities that were created with a strategy based on real‐time data. These will be sustainable strategies that adjust as data is ingested.
