TerraCycle was founded by Tom Szaky in 2002 with the initial focus to build an organic fertilizer made entirely from waste. TerraCycle’s resulting “worm poop” was made by feeding food waste to worms and brewing a tea from their resulting excrement. The product was a highly effective organic fertilizer, packaged in used soda bottles and sold in major retail stores across North America.
