Oxygen-Enriched Flames
In this section, we show that soot formation in diffu-
sion ames can be signicantly altered by the ame
structure. The ame structure can be changed by
varying the oxygen content in the oxidizer stream, gas
velocity or residence time, pressure at which the ame
operates, or the fuel composition. Also the geometry
in which the fuel and oxidizer are introduced into a
combustion reactor is very important for soot par-
ticle formation and this will be discussed in the next
sections. Oxygen enrichment of the ame signicantly
alters the main reaction zone by increasing the ame
