Characterization
In addition to the aforementioned conventional charac-
terization techniques, many advanced methods provide
additional insights, mostly based on laser diagnos-
tics and imaging techniques. Flow patterns and ame
dynamics can be investigated using laser Doppler velo-
cimetry, particle image velocimetry laser tomography,
or Schlieren techniques. Further, detailed imaging of
the ame with appropriate lters (OH, CH, C

) and/or
planar laser-induced uorescence reveals chemical com-
position of the ame.
