28.1 Introduction
Oxy-fuel combustion is becoming a promising technol-
ogy for capturing CO
2
from coal-red power plants.
However, the majority of research activities so far have
been focused on pulverized fuel (PF) combustion.
Several studies have shown that there are no technical
barriers for the construction of oxy-fuel PF combus-
tors. The results of these studies were summarized by
Buhre et al.

with remarks to some operational concerns
including ignition and ame stability and a reduction
of net electrical power efciency (∼9percentage points).
