in the literature, which reported increase of HC
emissions with certain oxygenated fuels.
8. An increase of NOx emissions with the amount
of oxygen in the fuel/air charge was observed in
both types of engines. However, the effects are
more severe in the case of oxygen-enriched air.
Overall, from the comparative evaluation of the two tech-
niques used for oxygen enrichment of diesel combus-
tion, it may be concluded that oxygen enhancement of
intake air increases the maximum combustion pressure
and thus the engine power output, without negatively
affecting the specic fuel consumption.
