The measured heat ux for these two surface condi-
tions was about the same. It was concluded that sur-
face chemical recombination effects were negligible
for those test parameters. Conolly and Davies

no difference in heat ux, between a surface coated
with highly catalytic platinum and a surface coated
with SiO

, which was expected to be noncatalytic. This
again led to the conclusion that the recombination of
radical species occurs in the boundary layer, prior to
reaching the surface. Baukal and Gebhart

no difference in heat ux to surfaces coated with alu-
mina or platinum.
