Chapter 37. Disk Woes in the Wee Hours

Instead of a customer system, this case history involves one of the systems in the Sun UK offices. The system is one of the older Sun-4/400 servers, one of the first SPARC-based systems Sun manufactured.

At one time, the system, Zen, was heavily used as a home file system server for several different departments as well as a disk server for several diskless systems. Now, its work load is much lighter.

Between July 25th and October 2nd, Zen experienced four system crashes. Let’s take a look at them.
