Chapter 8. Information Protection

Information is a valuable resource that needs protection. Locked doors keep unauthorized people away from an organization’s physical servers, but the information within them must be accessible to a wide range of people. Protecting information involves the following:

• The INFORMATION REENGINEERING STEPS protect the quality of the information and ensure it is formatted to match the needs of the consumers—reducing the likelihood that it is misinterpreted.

• The INFORMATION GUARDS test that authorized people and systems are using the organization’s information.

• The INFORMATION PROBES monitor the information processes and the infrastructure that supports them to ensure they are functioning correctly.
