Teams have a greater chance of success if they are formed deliberately, thoughtfully, with intention and purpose. This gives all members a chance to be engaged and involved in creating the team, encouraging buy-in from the very beginning. The forming stage creates the foundation for performance and success. Coaching at this stage can lead to big dividends later when the team starts performing. If the team goes through major changes at any point (losing or adding members, changes in goals), it can be beneficial to revisit the questions used in this chapter to re-engage and reinvigorate employees—and sometimes reinvent the team entirely.
