Evaluating the Quality of an Individual’s Performance
The process of evaluating performance begins during the performance planning meeting at the start of the review cycle when the manager discusses goals and key job responsibilities and competencies with each member of the team. In that discussion, along with talking about the results and behaviors expected, you and the subordinate need to talk about how the individual’s performance will be measured and what you consider to be fully successful performance.
Note that your responsibility is to communicate clearly what Fully Successful or Meets Expectations performance looks like—the kind of performance that you consider to be worthy of a 3 rating on your company’s 5-level rating scale. ...
