OBJECT
To determine the value of rate constant (K) of the hydrolysis of ethyl acetate catalyzed by hydrochloric acid.
THEORY
The hydrolysis of ethyl acetate catalyzed by dil. HCl is a reaction of first order, as the concentration of water is in large excess and does not change significantly during the progress of the reaction. It is thus a pseudo-unimolecular reaction.
The value of velocity constant is calculated from the equation of first-order reaction.
