Nondestructive Editing: A Lifestyle

Your image files will likely be in one of three common formats: TIFF, JPEG, or a version of raw (including DNG). Any of these can be edited by ACR or Lightroom, and all likely formats can be directly edited by Photoshop except raw.

Nearly all the color and tone adjustments described for Photoshop use adjustment layers because adjustments made directly to the image are difficult or impossible to reverse. Lens correction and sharpening filters will be applied to Smart Objects. Use the adjustments panel or Layer>New adjustment Layer, not Image>Adjustments.
