CHAPTER SIX
Using Camera Raw Basic Tab Controls
All RAW files require extensive processing to produce an image
pleasing to the eye. Adobe Camera Raw does most of the
computational work to assemble a RAW file in the background,
but it also provides many tools to make an image look the way
you want it to. In this chapter, we’ll see how to use the controls
found under the Basic tab to automatically redistribute the
tonal values of a particular image. Or, if you prefer, you can
manually change the white balance or redistribute tonal values
with the Exposure, Recovery, Fill Light, Blacks, Brightness, or
Contrast sliders. You can use the Clarity, Vibrance, or Saturation
sliders to control color saturation or give an image more pop. In
the next chapter, I’ll show you how you can get more advanced
control over color and tone using the Tone Curve and HSL/
Grayscale tabs.
