CHAPTER SEVEN
Advanced Tonal Control
In the previous chapter, we used the color and tonal controls
found under Camera Raw’s Basic tab. In this chapter, we’ll
learn more advanced control using the Tone Curve and HSL/
Grayscale tabs. I’ll also show you how to use the Camera
Calibration tab to create a custom look based on your camera
model. Finally, you’ll learn a technique that takes a bit more
work but often produces dramatic results: using Camera Raw to
create two or more versions of the same image with different
distribution of tonal values, then merging those two versions in
Photoshop into one that displays or prints an amazingly wide
range of shadow and highlight detail.
