SINGLE COLOR TONING
Single Color Toning
Adding a color tint to a photo has long historical precedent in
traditional photography. Who can forget the smell of the chemi-
cals we used to create Sepia-colored prints? Anyway, it’s a lot
easier with Camera Raw!
Using White Balance Tint Control
One of the easiest ways to create a color
tint from a color image is to simply
change the White Balance slider control,
found in the Basic tab. Moving the Tint
slider to the left shifts the colors to green
(Figure 10-19), while sliding them to the
right shifts the colors to magenta (Figure
10-20). This method definitely works
better on some images than others; it all
depends on the colors of the image. It
won’t work at all if you have completely
desaturated your color image or
converted it to grayscale. You can control
the amount of tint with the Basic tab’s
Saturation slider.
Using Split Toning to Create Single Color
Tone
You can use the Split Toning tab to
create a uniform tint to your image.
(In the next section, I’ll show you how
to create a cross-processing look, one
which distributes the tint to shadows and
highlights differently.)
