CHAPTER ELEVEN
Archiving and Working with DNG
DNG stands for digital negative, and it’s Adobe’s answer to the
confusing world of multiple RAW data file types. By converting
and saving your proprietary RAW data file into the DNG format,
you can archive your precious photographs, accompanying
metadata, and processing adjustments in an open format
that is more likely to be compatible with future software
applications. You also have the option of packing your original
RAW file into a DNG file, thereby increasing the odds that your
image will be preserved intact for future viewing. This chapter
will show you how to save and archive DNG files using either
Camera Raw or the free standalone, Adobe DNG Converter.
