SAVING DNG FILES
Scenario 3
Download RAW files from your digital 1.
camera.
Apply custom Camera Raw settings 2.
to the native RAW files via Bridge, or
open the images in Camera Raw and
globally apply the settings, as shown
in Figure 11-10.
After you are finished applying custom 3.
settings to your native RAW file, you
have two choices. In either case, you’ll
end up with custom settings attached
via XMP sidecars to your native RAW
file:
In Camera Raw, click Save Images from •
the lower left corner of the dialog box
(Figure 11-11), and use the resulting
Save Options dialog box (shown in
Figure 11-12) to convert your files into
DNG. (I’ll give you detailed instructions
on how to do this in the next section.)
Be sure to select Done when exiting
Camera Raw. Otherwise, your current
custom settings won’t be saved along
with the native RAW file.
Or, select Done and exit Camera Raw. •
Use the Adobe DNG Converter to
batch process the tweaked RAW files
into the DNG format. The converter
will automatically apply the Camera
Raw settings saved as XMP sidecars.
If Camera Raw converts while hosted by
Photoshop, and you click Done, the dialog
box shown in Figure 11-13 appears in the
Photoshop environment and remains
until the conversions are done. Even
though Photoshop is inoperable while the
conversion is taking place, you’ll still be
able to work in Bridge.
