You can open files by choosing FileOpen, by choosing FileOpen Recent and selecting a recently opened image's filename, or by clicking the Adobe Bridge button ("Br") in the Application Bar and using Bridge to open files.
Bridge allows you to browse thumbnails of files by navigating in the Favorites or Folders pane, or can search for filenames in the search box in the top right of the Bridge dialog box. You can see thumbnails and high-resolution previews and double-click thumbnails to open files.

To open files with the FileOpen command:
Choose FileOpen. Figure 5.6 shows the Open dialog box as it appears on a Mac.
Specify whether to show All Readable Documents, or if a file doesn't show up, specify All Documents.
Select the file you want to open.
