This chapter introduced you to some fairly advanced concepts related to 3D modeling. You learned about the 3D file formats that are supported by Photoshop CS4, and how to bring models created by 3D authoring software into Photoshop. You also learned how to create 3D objects from layered content in Photoshop. Navigating in 3D space using the View tools was covered, as was transforming and manipulating 3D objects.
You were also introduced to the concept of using texture maps to create materials for the objects in your scene. You learned about the different types of lights available in Photoshop, and about using different render modes to display your scene using differing levels of realism — from simple Wireframes to Raytraced previews with accurate reflections and shadows. Finally, you learned about different options for saving your 3D files, and you learned how to generate a full-quality image for final output.
