Before we can start implementing this feature, we need to think about what information it needs to be able to return, access, view, edit, and delete. We also need to think about who can do what with the API, as well as how we will structure the API.

What should it do, and who should be able to do what?

Let's look at the main areas of functionality within Dino Space, and list the operations within that we may wish to open up to our API. Depending on the operation, it may be restricted either by:

  • User: The user themselves—editing data they themselves created
  • Users: Any users within the site
  • Connections: Connections of the user the data relates to
