Smartphones contain a suite of sensors that allow one to measure quantities in physics without the use of any other lab equipment. Typical sensors contained onboard a smartphone are a accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, GPS, barometer, microphone, and a light sensor. There are many free apps that can access these sensors, record data, and create downloadable spreadsheets. This chapter will focus on an app called phyphox that’s available for free for both iOS and Android phones. Along with phyphox we will look at a free video analysis software package called Tracker, which can analyze the motion of an object in a video taken by a phone.
