IF YOU DON’T HAVE A broadband connection to your home, chances are you know someone who does. As of mid 2003, about 19 percent of U.S. households (or around 20 million U.S. homes) had some type of broadband network connection, and there were an estimated 45 to 50 million broadband subscribers worldwide. The deployment of broadband has only begun, and although the patterns are anything but uniform, the unmistakable impression is that broadband is rapidly achieving substantial presence.
