Overview

Rapid scaling is a key element of platform strategy, but it is not the best move for all platforms in all markets. Sometimes a more careful, incremental, and slower approach to scaling is better. In studying platform businesses like Airbnb and Uber, the authors found that regulatory complexity and regulatory risk are two significant but often neglected factors in the success of platform growth strategies.
