When the environment becomes less valuable or damaged, environmental degradation is said to occur. There
are many forms of environmental degradation. When habitats are destroyed, biodiversity is lost, natural
resources are depleted and f nally the environment is hurt. It has been established that environmental
degradation occurs through human processes, intervention and consumption of goods and resources. Globally
speaking, the largest areas of concern at present are the loss of rainforests, air pollution, smog, ozone depletion
and hazardous wastes.
