The first five chapters of this book have focused on PolyBase V1: that version of PolyBase which was available in SQL Servers 2016 and 2017. As of SQL Server 2019, we are in the realm of PolyBase V2. With it, the purpose of PolyBase shifts from being a Hadoop integration system (with a salutary side effect of being able to connect to Azure Blob Storage) to the linchpin of a data virtualization system.
