1.3.2 Time Division Multiplexing Access (TDMA) Technique
TDMA is a more popular multiple access technique that is used in
several communication systems. In TDMA, the spectrum is divided
into time slots and each time slot is allocated to one user as shown in
Figure1.1b.
In TDMA, data transmitted in the buffer and burst format result
in noncontinuous transmission. Despite FDMA being based on ana-
log FM, in TDMA digital data and digital modulation must be used.
Some features of TDMA are as follows:
1. In TDMA a single carrier frequency is shared with several
users.
2. Due to the discontinuous transmission in TDMA, a hand-off
process is much simpler.
