Abstract

Power-from-waste plants are extremely specialised power generation facilities in which the treatment and disposal of urban waste is usually more important than the generation of electricity which is viewed as a valuable by-product. The most common way generating power from waste is to burn it an incinerator. The waste must normally be sorted first so that any components capable of being recycled are removed. It is also possible to process some urban waste into a product called refuse-derived fuel which can be burnt in a conventional power plant.
