1.2.1 Cellular Phones
When the fi rst cellular handsets were shipped more than 20 years ago, no one could have
imagined all the components and technologies that would be squeezed into a handset 20
years later. Back then the DynaTAC 8000X handset from Motorola, fondly called the
“ Brick, ” was designed to carry on a voice call, and not much more than that. It weighed
2 pounds, offered half an hour talk time and cost almost $4,000.00 ( Figure 1.6 ).
