Devices
Devices are the lowest level in the taxonomy. Molecular materials such as carbon
nanotubes and silicon nanowires and prototype molecular electronics devices such as
fi eld-effect transistors (FETs) are being developed. The material ’ s small molecular
structures enable scaling beyond the most advanced lithographic techniques.
Quantum-effect nanoelectronic devices are broken into two groups, namely solid-state
nanoelectronic devices and molecular electronics. Single electron transistor (SET) and
resonant-tunneling devices are examples of solid-state nanoelectronic devices.
